See below how Scripture in sign language is engaging many Deaf believers.
The whole world is turned upside down with COVID-19 and current events, yet the global vision of the Great Commission remains steadfast.
God’s Word grows strong through the eyes, hearts, and hands of many Deaf.
A year ago, a group of Deaf American believers, leaders, and pastors came together online to begin a discussion about the Word of God in a whole new way.
For many, a group of believers, meeting together is nothing new or special. After all, hearing people have gathered in small groups for fellowship and Bible study for years. However, for many Deaf people, engaging with a sign language Gospel and fellow believers is something fairly unfamiliar. Through this experience, Deaf people can know God in a new way, one that opens up the heart to desire more Scripture clarity.
One predominant Deaf community leader says, “I am very thankful for the experience that I have been given to learn, grow, and broaden my horizons to know more about God through sign language Scripture. This is a huge need within Deaf communities. It’s been over a year since our group started meeting, and were still going strong today!”
Deaf believers will never stop meeting and talking about God’s Word in sign language in the same way that God’s Word in sign language will never fade. Through our eyes, in our hearts, and on our hands – Scripture in sign language is a part of us.
Another says, “this shows that there is definite community impact here – just the fact that the group continues to meet – even after a year! God’s Word in sign language is alive and lives on! Deaf leaders continue to meet because there is a desire to know God even more. We need each other for that, and it’s very inspiring! Deaf believers will never stop meeting and talking about God’s Word in sign language in the same way that God’s Word in sign language will never fade. Through our eyes, in our hearts, and on our hands – Scripture in sign language is a part of us.”
Deaf leaders are deeply thankful for Scripture engagement training in their sign language. Talking about God’s Word openly allows a place for Deaf believers to freely ask questions, unpack their feelings and misunderstandings, and share what they learn with others. This encourages Deaf communities holistically.
The proof is there! That group is still running strong. This is the sovereignty of God!
The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea– Habakkuk 2:14.
