The Institute for Sign Language Engagement and Training (ISLET) at Deaf Bible Society focuses on using solid research about sign language communities. This research includes information about Deaf people such as their languages, their cultures, their history, their beliefs, and their perspectives about God, the Bible, etc. In addition to investigating and cataloging sign languages around the world, ISLET trains and provides translation consultants and other professionals that support sign language Bible translation. Working with various partners in the Bible translation context and in Deaf communities, ISLET develops resources that meet needs for Bible translation teams and those who support them. This engagement and training from ISLET is intended to further support Bible translation and the spread of God’s Word among Deaf communities.
